Hearing God In His Word
2 Timothy 3:16 says that all Scripture is “God-breathed.” His Word sometimes gives us a warning, a word of encouragement, or a lesson for life. It’s “His-story”–written with love as God’s guide for life, “so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” That means God is whispering and at times shouting, all through His Word, giving us instructions and principles for life. As we interpret Scripture in light of other Scripture, we avoid the false logic and misinterpretations that sneak into our world. God never violates His own Word or Principles. The voice that contradicts His revealed Truth does not belong to God. We need help for raising children. God “tells” us about that in His Word. Marriage difficulties? God spoke about that as well. Times when we are afraid? We “hear” Jesus’ words to His disciples, as they feared for their lives one stormy night: “Peace, be still!” and it is as if God is speaking to us in our moment too (Luke 8:23-25). But to hear God in His Word, we must be IN His Word; both written (Bible) and living (Jesus). Do you hear God’s voice in your spirit when you spend time in His Word or are you just gaining info from stories?
Father, give me the peace that surpasses all understanding, and the hunger for your word daily.
Read the Bible not as another check off of your to-do list, but KNOWING that the Lord will bless your time in the Word. When you pray, do it KNOWING that God will hear and respond!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
